The extraction of peat changes the landscape and influences its biological diversity. Before the extraction of peat the areas of mires are drained. In the fields of the extraction of peat the layer (stratum) of vegetation is taken away. This process significantly changes the surrounding environment. The partners of BalticPeatMoss – the peat bogs use rationally the mires where the work of the extraction of peat is started. They try as far less to influence the ecosystems of mires. In the place of the elaborated camps of the extraction of peat new biotypes which are important places of the nesting and of the living for the birds are created.
